Let’s pretend that the weather forecast says that it is going to rain for the next 50 days. If it rains for the next 50 days where do you think all that water is going to go? The water is going to cover everything that we see - houses, cars, schools, roads, trees. Your group needs to make something with the materials the teachers provide that floats long enough to keep two plastic friends (lying down) out of the water for two minutes.

Grade 1
The Fire Chief has asked us to gather data on fire safety from FG students. He would like us to use the data to find out what the needs are in the areas of fire safety. Working in teams, we will then come up with ways to improve fire safety in these areas. First Grade students will create a product to share with Forest Glen students and families to promote one aspect of fire safety.

Studies have shown that over the summer students can lose academic skills in both math and reading. This problem is called “summer slide.” Forest Glen offers a Summer Send-off event in order to address this issue. Level 3 students will research the summer slide problem and examine FG student data to determine if the current Summer Send-off activities have been effective. Students will design additional or replacement activities to be implemented during Summer Send-off in order to address summer slide. These activities will be shared with Forest Glen’s Building Leadership Team for implementation at the end of the school year.

Forest Glen is going to install an Outdoor Learning Space to benefit all school community members (students, staff, parents, neighbors). Art
How does an artist bring an idea to fruition? How does the idea move from the mind of the artist to a physical piece of art? The process of deconstructing an idea is a process that can be learned, but many people do not know how to do it. Students will learn and document the deconstruction process and create a piece of original art to be displayed at a district show. In addition, students will develop a presentation that explains the deconstruction process to both experts and the viewers attending the show.

Music
Students need an appropriate learning environment in the classroom. Part of this learning environment is having background music that facilitates and encourages their learning. Your job is to research the effects of music on the brain and develop a list of criteria to use for a composition. After receiving feedback from panelists, you will compose a piece of music for a specific learning environment that will positively affect students’ learning.
